It seems that the release of Apple’s next-generation AirPods Pro may take longer than initially expected, with recent insights from a reputable supply chain analyst suggesting a possible refresh delay until 2026. The last significant update to the AirPods Pro was in September 2022, when Apple introduced the second-generation model featuring the new H2 chip, enhanced active noise cancellation, and improved audio quality.

Just a year later, the company made minor updates by switching the charging port from Lightning to USB-C. While earlier rumors hinted at a potential refresh of the AirPods Pro later this year, those claims may no longer hold weight.

TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently stated that significant updates to the high-end earbuds are unlikely until 2026, aligning with his previous predictions regarding the introduction of AirPods with infrared cameras for gesture control. Kuo originally forecasted nearly two years ago that these advanced AirPods would be ready for mass production by 2026.

Previous speculation indicated that Apple might implement incremental updates to the existing model before then, but such updates seem increasingly improbable. The absence of recent rumors surrounding an anticipated AirPods Pro 3 launch also supports Kuo’s assertions.

Despite the age of the current model, Apple has continued to enhance the AirPods Pro’s functionality. With the rollout of iOS 18 last year, the earbuds gained features such as voice isolation and personalized spatial audio for gaming.

Looking ahead, iOS 19 is rumored to introduce real-time translation capabilities for the AirPods Pro. Additionally, Kuo notes that a lighter version of the AirPods Max is projected to enter mass production in early 2027.

The existing model received only a minor update in September 2024, with new color options and USB-C compatibility, leaving the $549 headphones largely unchanged since their debut.
