The iOS 26 developer beta is now available for download at no cost, giving you the chance to preview the innovative Liquid Glass design for the iPhone ahead of its official release. This beta version includes several new features, such as an updated Camera and Phone app, enhanced Apple Intelligence capabilities, and 3D photos.
However, before diving in, it’s important to remember that beta software can be unstable. Users often experience bugs, lost data, and malfunctioning apps.
The current beta has notable issues with broken animations and other features, which can lead to frustrations. If you’re interested, I highly recommend waiting for the public beta set to be released in July, as this version is typically more reliable.
Should you choose to proceed, ensuring that your data is backed up is crucial. Make sure to have two copies of your photo library to safeguard against potential loss.
Here’s a straightforward guide to help you download the iOS 26 developer beta. First, verify that you have an iCloud backup.
Navigate to Settings, tap on your name, select iCloud, and check for a successful backup. If needed, perform a backup by selecting “Back Up Now.”
Alternatively, you can back up your phone by connecting it to a Mac or PC. Next, ensure your photo library is also backed up.
Open the Photos app, and check whether it’s synced to iCloud. If not, initiate a sync.
For added security, keep a local copy of your photo library on a Mac or external drive. To enable beta software updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
Look for the Beta Updates option. If you don’t see it, enroll in the developer program using your Apple ID.
You can then select the iOS 26 Developer Beta option. Finally, download the beta update by selecting “Update Now” and following the prompts.
The update may take longer than typical updates to install, so be patient. Once completed, your device will reboot into the new beta system.
If you encounter any issues, consider switching to the public beta once it’s available in July.
